How to Use This Dice Roller

This page is a general-purpose dice roller for TRPG (tabletop RPG) sessions, murder mystery games, and any other tabletop play. It runs entirely in the browser — no app install — whether your session is in person or online.

Dice Notation

Standard dice notation is supported: 1d100 rolls one hundred-sided die,2d6+3 rolls two six-sided dice and adds 3 to the total. Advantage-style "roll two, keep the higher" is 2d20kh1; disadvantage (keep the lower) is 2d20kl1. The classic stat roll "roll four, drop the lowest" is written 4d6kh3.

Target checks like 1d100<=50 automatically show Success / Failure after the roll. The check uses the total, so modified expressions like 1d20+5>=15 work too.

Percentile Skill Check Mode

Turn on percentile skill check mode and every 1d100 roll is automatically compared against your skill value and classified into Critical / Extreme / Hard / Success / Failure / Fumble— the standard six tiers for d100 skill checks. It uses the widely adopted thresholds: with skill under 50, rolls of 96-100 fumble; with skill 50 or higher, only a natural 100 fumbles.

* This tool is unaffiliated with any TRPG product, game system, or publisher. It is an independent, general-purpose dice roller; all product rights belong to their respective holders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What dice notation is supported?
A. NdM (e.g. 1d100, 2d6, 3d6), modifiers (2d6+3, 1d20-1), compound expressions (2d6+1d4+5), target checks (1d100<=50, 1d20>=15), and keep-highest/lowest (4d6kh3 rolls four and keeps the best three; 2d20kh1 for advantage, 2d20kl1 for disadvantage).
Q. What does the percentile skill check mode do?
A. It compares a 1d100 roll against a skill value (1-99) and classifies the result into six tiers automatically: 1-5 is a critical (when at or under skill), <=skill/5 is an extreme success, <=skill/2 a hard success, <=skill a success, anything above a failure. Rolls of 96-100 with skill under 50, or 100 with skill 50+, count as fumbles — the classification widely used for d100 skill checks.
Q. Can I use it for murder mystery and social deduction games?
A. Yes. It covers the dice those games typically use — 1d100 / 2d6 / 1d20 / 1d6 — plus target checks (<=X / >=X). Quick presets bring each up instantly, keeping sessions moving.
Q. What format is easiest to paste into Discord?
A. Press Copy on a result card and text containing the expression and result (e.g. `1d100 → 47 [47]`) is copied to the clipboard, ready to paste into Discord / Slack or any chat.
Q. Is my roll history saved?
A. Yes — the latest 30 rolls are saved automatically in your browser’s localStorage and reappear when you reopen the page in the same browser. Clear History removes everything. Incognito windows and other devices track history separately.
Q. How good is the randomness?
A. It uses the browser’s standard Math.random(), which is plenty for tabletop play. It is not a cryptographically secure source (Crypto.getRandomValues).
Q. Are there limits on dice count or sides?
A. To keep things fast, each roll allows up to 200 dice with up to 1000 sides. Expressions beyond that return an error.
Q. Is this an official tool for any specific TRPG?
A. No. This tool is unaffiliated with any TRPG product, game system, or publisher. It is an independent tool that makes the widely used percentile (critical/fumble threshold) classification easy to run in a browser. All product rights belong to their respective holders.
